Suspension struts for the Wilga from Tomahawk in the scale 1:3.5

The spring strut for the Wilga consists of a combination of a oil damper and one preloaded built-in spring. The undercarriage is dampened by the spring, the oil damper prevents the model from jumping away as a result of the spring snapping back. As a result, the model sucks itself firmly after it is placed on the floor. The shock absorber even copes with rough impacts on hard landings without complaint. The model already springs when driving on the square.

The preload of the spring can be changed by the user himself. To do this, the attachment on the side of the landing gear is unscrewed and the outer immersion tube is pulled off. The preload of the spring can now be changed using a threaded ring on the oil damper. This process only takes a few minutes and can be done on site. In this way, the suspension can be perfectly matched to the respective needs.

A higher spring preload causes the model to deflect later when standing / when pushing / when cornering. The cushioning becomes harder.
A lower spring preload leads to earlier compression, but this is probably not desirable when cornering, since the model will then compress too early on the outside of the curve.

The strut is designed as a dip tube, with the inner dip tube sliding in the outer dip tube with a 50% overlap. This reliably prevents the spring from buckling and the shock absorber is stable. The immersion tubes and the fastening parts are made of stainless steel.

Two stainless steel inserts are supplied for the mounting eyes. These are intended for the manufacturer's M5 screws and prevent the shock absorber from being stuck to the chassis. This allows the mounts to move during compression.
