Canopy mechanism 1:2.0 – 1:2.5
This is a universal canopy mechanism for the front canopy.
Description:
- made of 3.0 mm GRP (dyed black)
- a spring and toggle-lever mechanism pushes the canopy up when open and presses it onto the canopy frame when closed
- the spring can be adjusted over a wide range and matched to the canopy weight via its preload
- suitable for canopies weighing 300 – 1200 grams
- Weight: 164 grams
- the complete mechanism is glued into the model via a main former (6 mm aircraft plywood, 10-ply) and can be removed from the model by undoing just 2 screws
- at the back, the mechanism has an additional small support former into which it is simply plugged. This spreads the load over two formers
- a small wooden part is glued to the underside of the instrument panel cover of the canopy. It has a bayonet fitting that is plugged into the support arm of the mechanism and secured with a central knurled screw. This lets you detach the entire canopy from the model in seconds
Scope of delivery:
- canopy mechanism, fully assembled with spring
- two wooden formers (front main former with extra material for shaping to the fuselage)
- glue-on plate for the instrument panel cover (removable)
- screws and washers
Notes:
- since the weight of the canopy varies greatly depending on model scale and level of detail, the user can adjust the spring preload over a wide range. To do this, remove the mechanism from the main former via the two mounting screws and take it apart – a matter of a few minutes. The spring preload is set by adding washers, which are included. A video showing how to take the mechanism apart and add washers can be found here: Canopy mechanism installation guide
- because the mechanism can be removed, all parts can be replaced at any time. Using a spring ensures an extremely long service life that will certainly not be exceeded in a normal model's lifetime
- the canopy can be removed completely in seconds without tools via a central knurled screw. This is very helpful when working on the canopy, the instrument panel or the model (if the canopy is in the way). The bayonet fitting, which is screwed to the glue-on plate, engages positively in the support arm. This holds the canopy very firmly in the support arm without any play. Once plugged in, the canopy is already held by the bayonet and can then be secured with the central screw.
- the opening angle of the canopy can be adjusted, i.e. it can be tilted further towards the model. This lets you adapt the look to your personal preferences
- all components needed to install and operate the mechanism are supplied. As the user, you only need to take the upper contour of the model and transfer it to the main former, which comes with extra material. Positioning and gluing it in completes the work
- for models with a two-piece canopy, a separate mechanism is available for the rear canopy (please contact us by email)
