We have functionally revised our proven wheel shoe brake.

The brake is no longer actuated via a bellcrank and a pull cord; instead, a Bowden cable with a steel wire is used. The Bowden cable is very thin (2.7 mm) and highly flexible.

The steel wire has a tensile strength of 80 kg. The Bowden cable has two abutments, which are fastened to brackets already provided on the landing gear. The brake servo is connected via an M3 clevis. The brake is supplied fully assembled and only needs to be hooked onto the servo arm of the brake servo.

The advantage of this brake is that the Bowden cable always stays the same length – cable stretch and fiddly tying of a knot at the right length are a thing of the past. This type of linkage gives a very stiff brake actuation that actually transfers the servo's force to the brake shoe.

The brake shoe is milled from CFRP and is fixed on the axle with two circlips. On all our landing gear, the axle can be moved up and down via a slot in the wheel leg. This lets you compensate for tyre wear and set the gap between brake shoe and tyre precisely.
